“I’m Anya, a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with roots that stretch from the Pacific coast to the desert of New Mexico. I’ve lived mostly between Mexico and France, and those places - rich in culture, texture, and contradiction - shape how I see and create.
My work takes many forms whether its drawing, painting, storytelling….whatever the idea calls for. I don’t limit myself to one medium, because imagination doesn’t live in just one place. At its core, my art is about wonder - about making space for imagination, sensitivity, and the kind of joy/emotions that doesn’t ask permission.
My deepest inspiration comes from children, animals, and music. Their curiosity, instinct, and unapologetic way of existing in the world always light something up in me. I believe children are the most creative beings on earth - wild, honest, and free…and animals, in their quiet intelligence, teach us to look, listen, and feel more deeply. A compliment from a child or a moment shared with your dog carries more truth than most adult words ever could. And music—music moves me. It always has. I’m 1000% always listening to something while I paint, and the sound completely shapes the piece. Music helps me access emotions I don’t have words for, and sometimes it feels like the painting belongs more to the song than it does to me.
I’m moved by children’s books, the playful rebellion of Dr. Seuss, Disney films like Peter Pan, and the storytelling power of color…especially the vivid, fearless palettes of my own culture. The landscapes, plants, and animals of Mexico are always with me when I create. Even when I’m making something playful or surreal, they bring a “soul” to the work - something real, rooted, and breathing.
But it’s not just that - my family, my friends, the people I meet and love and talk to - all of that is fuel too. Life itself is my biggest inspiration. The little things, the drives back home with my friends, the moments by a campfire or my secret handshake from my mom. It all ends up in the work somehow.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it - or at the very least, feel something in it xx :)”
